Welcome to walking in Lake Bohinj

  • Slovenia's best-kept alpine secret
  • Perfect for off-the-beaten-track explorers
  • Mountain swims, panoramic trails, and genuine solitude
Sitting within Triglav, Slovenia’s only National Park, Lake Bohinj is the starting point for some of the best hikes in the Julian Alps.
Lake Bled's quieter, wilder neighbour, walking holidays in Lake Bohinj are all about dramatic hikes, crystal-clear swims, and blissful tranquillity.
The 12km lake perimeter trail offers gorgeous views over the Church of St John the Baptist, and for families, the Mostnica Gorge walk offers the perfect respite on warm summer days.
Meanwhile, hikers can ride the Vogel cable car to 1,535m and tackle high-altitude trails across Mount Vogel (1,922m), Rodica (1,964m), and the Lower Bohinj ridge. The views from the top? Worth every step.

How to get around Lake Bohinj

How our self-guided Lake Bohinj walking holidays work:

Our self-guided trips let you set your own pace, from the length of your stay, to how far you walk each day. But if you’re used to group or guided holidays, you might be wondering how you’ll get around? Well, it’s easy…

Getting to and around town:

Your airport transfer is included with your trip. Once there, you'll find exploring Lake Bohinj couldn’t be easier. Walks start straight from the resort, including the iconic 12km lake perimeter trail, and it's easy to mix cable car rides, lake walks, and waterfall visits into one full day.

Getting to your walks and hikes:

A free summer bus runs from late June to late September to link you up to nearby Ribčev Laz, Vogar-Blato, and Pokljuka.
The Vogel cable car also runs every 30 mins from Ukanc on the lake - perfect for reaching new heights without the climb - while regular buses connect Bohinj to Lake Bled and Ljubljana for easy day trips.
